Los Angeles Tackles Housing Prices

The home price boom is becoming an issue even in LA mayoral elections, and the central planners are sharpening their pencils. "'If you don't show us where you want housing in your neighborhood, we will define that for you,' said Councilman Ed Reyes.

One would think that to be mayor of Los Angeles, a person would know many countries are experiencing a housing mania that the zoning board is unlikely to fix. But the debate is on with policy plans galore. "An inclusionary zoning plan would require affordable housing in any new project with five or more units. Both favor the construction of more subsidized housing"

The problem is so difficult the candidates fear taking firm positions. "They've both stayed away from it..it's too controversial, too dangerous for either one."
